outreach…

jesus said to go into all the world and preach the gospel…this week has been filled with outreach and it continues on! wednesday and thursday night we held a walk through drama called “hell house”.  took several weeks to pull it off and hundreds of man hours from the media, to the set up (we built steel studded walls), casting (50+ students and leaders were in it), writing and staffing the event.  today it was the day after and the clean up was horrendous but worth it all!  we saw close to 1000 people walk through the drama in 2 days and 157 decision cards were filled out. Praise God for the good news that was shared.  Props go out to matt, pastor jon, tomas, pam, ron (the man that built the walls and supplied the heater to heat up hell, as well as dealt with the masses), john for the wrecked vehicles and a police car, scott for the for real fire truck and all the students in the cast.  this is an annual event and when it was all done we were throwing around ideas for next year.  i am stoked about outreach that gets kids involved in a fun way to reach the masses!  it was scary too!

tomorrow it’s calvary cares…we head out to walmart to give away hot dogs and soda!  I love my church! we totally care about the lost in our community! if you don’t do outreach, then you are missing out on the biggest command of all…GO!

the thin place…

starbucks this morning for some oatmeal and an upside down caramel machiato…yum! i am reading “wild goose chase” by mark batterson and felt God in the middle of the norm! let me explain. he talked about driving up a mountain road through clouds and breaking through and the clouds looked like a “celestial carpet.” now that’s pretty descriptive writing…you would not understand unless you were there! Tuesday i climbed into a twin engine cessna o fly to st. pete with our pastor (he is a preaching machine…i am so impressed with how much he preached at ctn this past tuesday. Mosesit was deep) well we climbed to 8 thousand feet and broke through the clouds! below is a pic. the thin place is what the celtic christians called the place where heaven seems to touch earth. thin places…moments where god shows up! moses had a moment in the middle of a desert…God showed up in the middle of the desert. God can show up anywhere! it does not matter where you are He shows up! what makes the difference is when you are aware of his presence. last night…in the middle of the message things shifted, changed, got in the groove and it was as if we broke through the clouds and hit the thin place. i was so aware of God showing up in the middle of the service and it energized my life…i have a terrible cold with that raspy smokers voice (i do NOT smoke) and it seemed like when i hit the thin place my voice was strong the students were hanging on every word and something powerful was happening in that moment…i love moments where god shows up!

BUT – he always shows up! what makes the difference is my awareness and desire for him to show up. at the moment of writing this blog in my journal i am listening to amazing grace by sarah kelly and i can see the hustle and bustle of people in starbucks…and i become so aware that God is here! it was like breaking through the clouds and hitting the thin place!

monday is a day for?

it’s monday and the kiddos are home and this will be a short blog. i woke up to a wrestling match and dog pile in the bed…gotta love my boys. the weather in Florida, especially in the fall is amazing. its like 70 degrees out there a slight breeze and i am cooking bacon and whole wheat pancakes on the grill. there are so many things on my mind to do…here is just a few: go over the script and make adjustments for a “hell house” outreach meeting tomorrow, work on my message for wednesday (i am in a series called deeper, and i am going to dive into the truth that love is unselfish and love is serving…you can play in the shallows of your faith or you can wade out into the depth of love and service), i need to trim the palm trees, email the office-darn i just did that, i am getting my haircut today (short-tired of the longer hair), schedule some activities, meetings and events for the spring and summer, trim the palm trees out front, work on a to do list that never stops and keeps on growing…update the web-sight……yada yada yada…

today i am taking the day off and chilling with the boys…haircut and indiana jones and the crystal skull.
