friends in ministry…

December 23, 2008 Leave a comment

the most wonderful time of the year…we had some friends over last night and fried some fish, gilled some salmon and set up a fire pit to make smores. the kids had a great time and it was all about friendship. if you don;t take time to hang out with friends in ministry, then the ministry can be a lonely place. we hung around and talked about how much we love our church and where we see it headed…great thoughts!

just a thought about friends and ministry…when you are in the mix of ministry, you need friends around you! I talked to peeps that are burned and overwhelmed by the “ministry” the demands, the drive, the life, the junk…well if you don’t have friends you can laugh with, then you will find yourself in a lonely world. laughter and fellowship is a good thing when ministry is full of stress and pressure!

take time for friends and laugh some this season! tonight we are gonna head out and look at some lights and laugh some more. gotta laugh when the pressure of life is for real!

the fire burns on…

woke up this morning to the smell of smoke. last night the fires burned all around the neighborhood and just one block away from our house. it’s monday and i have an eye doctors appt. i had to get my eye dilated – i hate when they do that. it feels like you are walking around all drugged up and your eyes burn and to tp it off i woke up with this amazing headache from the smoke. nice start to a great day! i left my neighborhood and had to drive by a police blockade. on returning i had to talk my way back into the hood…now at this point we made a decision to stay, but we had to pick up the boys from school. i picked them up flashed my license to the police blockade and drove in. the neighborhood is still under a mandatory evacuation and the forestry division is worried about flare ups since the wind is picking up.

one huge fire has burned in the hood all around houses, but none touched by the flames. thank you God for taking care of my house! 2 days of fires and i have missed 2 special parties. pastor jon is 30 and eric is going away:( props go out to pastor Jon welcome to the 30’s and welcome the world of iphone! props also go out to eric…you were a great intern and now you have a new journey to go on…i know you will do big things in dunwoody, Ga. i look forward to hearing all that God does in your ministry!

Peace.

i brought my youngest to school on friday…he’s been out of r 2 days with fever. it was tough getting him to get in gear and get going, he was so down and moping around on his way. he was tired and wanted to feel some love. so i kept telling him your gonna make it its gonna be a great day today…i bet your friends really missed you. he reluctantly walks down the hall towards his class…we walked in right as class was about to start all the kids were in their seats and when we walked in you though some famous person walked in cheers erupted from the whole room…jake was back! you could see a hint of a smile on his face. i took a picture of him in his kindergarten cap and gown…they were taking pics today. he still had a smile on his face…now that’s what friends are for. they pick you up when you feel down!

highlights of the day…
-clean pool, work on my iphone, read a chapter in a book, drop off my car at my bros place, and an afternoon drive on a sunny day with a friend. my best friend and i went for a long ride along te river in ormond and around the loop. i love this ride…there aren’t many people on the roads and the sights of incredible homes and beautiful scenery is so refreshing. we rode talked and made a quick stop at the fairchild tree at bulow creek state park. not much there to see but a 700 year old tree…cool.

great day with my best friend and wife!

what do you do on monday?

emails gone bad

December 17, 2007 2 comments

ever email someone and the sprit and intent of the email get totally misunderstood?

Or better yet, certain parts of the information in an email gets totally left out when an email is communicated to a third party…in person but not forwarded?

what am i getting at? well i sent an email to someone to get some issues taken care of…nothing big, but it got totally out of sorts when it was passed on. i have a huge heart for the person that got caught in the middle and felt like i was being dirty…i guess life in this century is like this, we communicate so much through nonverbal and impersonal sources that emails and texts can totally go bad!  i likethe good old south way of talkin to people…lesson learned-email and text are quick but they can easily go bad.

to all that i have ever emailed or texted before and it seemed heartless…please forgive me. i aint perfect, i am just doing my best to be all that i am supposed to be!

life lessons learned…

happy birthday..

last night we celebrated a friends birthday.  marvin eans…and several of his friends met in orlando at the cheesecake factory. some of us had  to stop in at albertsons for a gift card and ran into some peeps that live in orlando. i saw them in the parking lot and caught up for a few.  friends – people you can have a great time with and know they honestly care about you as a person.  i preach about it to students all the time and its cool to see it worked out in everyday life.  well we ate, laughed and generally had a great time. after we went to the sak comedy lab for some entertainment.  I did not know what we were getting into. its a dark small place with a stage and stadium theatre seats. SAK Comedy Lab is a place where they do improv. 2 teams of 3 comedians stood up and did improv to various skits and plots. we had a great time. friday night with friends, good food and laughs…well i think we laughed more together and at each other than at the the sak!happy birthday marv!
