unwrapping the impossible pt 2

can the impossible be possible in your life? why not…with God all things are possible! absolutely nothing is impossible with Him! NO THING! nada! i am sitting in bed with my ibook – which is terribly slow now – listening to kari jobe and studying for my message…God can do the impossible! i belive it, BUT if i can’t see it i can’t have it! i f the shepherds never saw the baby jesus they would have never experienced the impossible…they would have never spread the word! If i can’t hear him i wont respond to what he has for my life. if the shepherds did not hear the angel say the baby would be wrapped in swaddling clothes…they would have been still tending sheep and never made it into the Bible today. They saw…they heard…and they went. We have seen so much, but can we see God do the impossible in our lives? God is speaking, but are we listening? if not we wont go where he has planned for our lives! Now that’s a bummer! i am stoked about tomorrow night. This is truly the most wonderful time of the year! enjoy…

burn…sermon series part 1

here is the direction we are headed for in burn part 1… 

What’s it take to start a fire?

1. a spark-what sparks are flying in your life
2. pressure-friction! pressure to smother and pressure to produce it’s all around us!
3. material-kindling! Something has to burn!
4. oxygen-something has to breathe life on it!

Hebrews 12:29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”

leviticus 6:13 The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out.

our goals for this month are…
- start a fresh fire! it only takes a spark in the right conditions and a fire will burn!
- increase worship in this place – sat april 12 a night of worship!
- increase prayer – every Wednesday at 6:30 pre service prayer!
- increase the amount of bibles that students bring and read.
- increase the number of people in attendance!

when students burn you can’t help but see an increase!

sermon series…burn!

this week we start a 4 week series called burn!  we are going to start a fire and keep it burning! i am looking forward to see what God will do in this series! 
 

the power of emotions…

today i spoke to our christain school about emotion…some people are so emotionless and others are so full of emotion it spills out all over lives around you!  emotion means to stir up, so basically don’t start nothin wont be nothin…if we don’t stir in the right things in our lives, then we wont reap the right responses!  how do you respond when things go truly bad?

read 1 samuel 30:3 When David and his men came to Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. 4 So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep. 6. But David found strength in the LORD his God.

when life deals bitter situations what will your emotional response be? David found strength not in his situation…but in the Lord! if you don’t control your emotions then your emotions will control you. you will ultimately be controlled by your feelings (flesh) rather than your spirit!

relationships…answering the tough questions

tonight’s message is one part in a series on relationships. i find that so many students are confused about their sexuality and boundaries. tonight we are going to answer some tough questions kids have with biblical answers. my prayer is that truth will heard and that opinion will step aside for the truth to be heard.  you may ask what questions are you gonna answer…

1. teenage pregnancy…how are we supposed to respond!

2. is it ok to have sex before you get married?

3. is homosexuality an alternative lifestyle?

4. bisexuality…good thing or bad thing?

as you can tell its gonna be interesting…we went to city walk this past weekend and interviewed some teens and asked them their opinion on these questions…

the issue is people are asking the wrong questions…The question not to ask is what can I do or who can I do it with whether same sex or not!
the questions we should be asking is…
- What do I need to do today to be pure?
- What choices will I have to make today that will affect purity?
- how close can i get to god not somebody else?

wake up

last night i started a series called wake up!  we looked at 3 sleeping disorders and related them to the spiritual lives of kids…this message was fun informative and stirring. as a youth pastor i have seen so many just plain numb to the things of god…this message was meant to stir up the numb to wake up!

here is a few highlights copied right from my notes:  

the word asleep means-not attentive or alert; inactive, having no feeling; numb…dead to the world, zonked….to slumber

Romans 13: 11 And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here.

sleeping disorders…
1. Automatic behavior-
Purposeless verbal or nonverbal motion behaviors without conscious control

too many are talking nonsense and acting out of control…purposeless!

2. sleepwalking
Too many are walking around asleep – eyes open – but their actions don’t line up! They don’t live it!

3. Narcolepsy – falling asleep at any given time…faling out at inappropriate times

I honestly knew a kid that was a narcoleptic. he fell asleep walking down the road in belize on a missions trip…and then fell out all over the country…it was for real a mess!

If you are asleep – you are not conscious of the world, you will miss out on the destiny God has for you!

Judges 16:20 Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!” He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the LORD had left him

Samson was fast asleep and they cut off his hair and he did not realize the lord had left him

Its time to wake up – to be alert –

are you numb to the things of God?

relationships…

today i heard a great word in my church and something hit me like a 2×4 in the head. it was strong. “God will never call you to do something that he wont give you the right relationships to bring it to pass” connection is everything!

it hit me so hard i wrote it in my journal on the front inside page…(a place for quotes that i hear all year). i got to start thinking bout the relationships i am in right now and wondering how helpful they are to my destiny! i look at some of my relationships and i can see a bright future ahead-something only God could prepare…then i look at others and just scratch my head…

who ya connected to relationally can make a difference in your destiny! i made a decision this morning to get connected to people that can help my destiny!
