planning…planning…planning

Today i sat down to do some planning for the next few weeks…got my trusty moleskin and pen ready! Success in ministry is directly related to how well you can plan. I am a planner that loves to have a plan for events, trip, programs, outreaches and more. To me if you have a plan, take time to plan and work the plan, then you will see the plan come into fruition! I get frustrated when I talk to people that have good intentions and good ideas but don’t have a clue as to how to plan out the task. I spend a good portion of my time working on plans that need a whole lot more people than one to accomplish. In order for there to be the measure of success and not the measure of stress, then there has to be a measure of thought and effort put into planning. The way i see planning is this. There is a creative element where you dream and brainstorm and get more minds involved to bring in every idea possible. there is the monetary element, where you put the numbers down to necessarily pay for the plan. Some ideas are so far off when it comes to financing that you shut them down at this point. Then there is the execution element where you strategically place people in positions necessary to work the plan. You can never have too many hands on deck! If you don’t have enough people in place to pull off the grand plan then scaling back is a necessity. Then there is the follow up element. In order for a plan to evolve into a better plan you have to look at what took place and be willing to tweak whatever needs tweaking and Go forward. just a few thoughts on planning for success.

a productive and effective week…

the week begins and there is sooooo much to do, where do you start? what will I tackle first? emails, phone calls, planning sessions, creative meetings, vision casting and evaluating, face book (major source of time killer), twit or tweet, follow up, equipment orders, edit media trax, study for 3 messages, spring break out for missions kids, halfway house mentoring…and the list goes on and on. Here’s my plan…a look into my world the first day of the week. (I know it’s tuesday-I have off on monday and I still sent emails, posted tweets and made a few calls) Today – I cleaned off my desk for a fresh start of the week, broke out a card and listed few things I HAVE to get to today, cleaned out my emails and opened my format for messages, set myself up to flow…got a play list going in my office. For me atmosphere is conducive to my effectiveness…lights are not florescent. I like lower ambient lighting and a clean workspace for tackling the day. This all happens before staff prayer and staff meeting. It’s 9 am now and I am ready to go to prayer and staff meeting (oops gotta fill out my staff report). my week is full, sometimes over full, but I find that I must spend time doing the right things…

Philippines 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

here is a quote from a pastor i read recently on FB…

Until you KNOW what to do; do what you KNOW to do; and by doing what you KNOW to do; God will lead you to WHAT you are supposed to do!

today started with a whirlwind of activity…meeting to settle last minute details for the event of a lifetime. in order to pull off an event like this it takes a huge cast of people. all the pastors and support staff are neck deep in details…BUT we are not sinking. we are swimming in the plan that God has in store for this weekend. it’s such a good feeling when you see people run in their lane and get it done.  its when people get out of their lane that stress and frustration can step in.  here’s a word “stay in your lane” i know m lane and love running in it!  last night i was in my lane…today i am giving creative insight into the drama and setup…basically i am watching and taking notes…our people Got it down!

my specific lane for this event is to oversee 70 volunteers that will serve as ushers! we will sit people take 2 offerings and collect materials. we have a great plan in place and i have a great cast of support staff to help us get it done. props go out to tomas and pam. i would lose my mind without you guys!

oh yah my wife picked me up a shirt and a tie this week for easter and its bangin! it’s stinkin off the chain, its out of this planet! well thats my interpretation-i just love looking tight on easter. i will post a pic of the forces on easter sunday!

tuesday…a day of meetings

in order to be successful at any venture you have to meet with people in order to get the momentum you hope to obtain in any event, activity or outreach.  i find that the longer i am in ministry and the more we grow the more meetings it takes to get it done. i met with a friend this morning to pour into, then staff meeting, then i ran into one of our fine arts directors and we talked about a few issues we had, then ran to another meeting over 2 events that are coming real soon as well as other pressing issues, then it was a creative meeting for easter (wow the ball is really rolling in this one). finally i got to work on some service details for wednesday and then ran home.

meetings are necessary to the success of anything!
